Jaelee Roberts is a young singer, whose day job with award-winning sextet, Sister Sadie, keeps her busy on the road.

White Liar is a song that I’ve loved for a long time and have wanted to record, but the time just wasn’t right until now.  “I actually included ‘White Liar’ on solo performances when I was still in high school, and I’m really happy to get back to it now in the studio. Miranda Lambert has such an awesome way of delivering a song with attitude and giving it life and I really enjoyed singing this in the studio.

When thinking about the song arrangement, I knew I didn’t want to recreate what had already been done by Miranda but wanted to stay true to what makes the song so great while putting my own sound and style into it. I am incredibly grateful to have such an amazing group of musicians playing on White Liar – Jaelee Roberts.

White Liar features: Ron Stewart on banjo, Michael Cleveland on fiddle, Justin Moses on mandolin, Tony Wray on guitar, and Alan Bartram on bass, with Zack Arnold singing harmony.

When you have musicians like that on a song, you just stand back and let them do what they do, and I absolutely love it. Chris Latham recorded and mixed the track, my dad, Danny Roberts, produced it and it was really special getting to record with people I admire and respect so much – Jaelee Roberts.

Indeed, with a cast like that, it’s no wonder that the Roberts’ give plenty of time for the virtuosity that’s a hallmark of the genre to shine during an extended outro before Jaelee returns with an ending that brings the spotlight back to her confident vocal.

White Liar is available for download via Get It Played.

About Jaelee Roberts:

Jaelee Roberts is a Nashville-born bluegrass singer, songwriter, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist whose music combines the emotional directness of traditional bluegrass with a fresh, contemporary perspective. Raised in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Roberts grew up surrounded by music and the people who make it. Her father, Danny Roberts, is a founding member of the acclaimed bluegrass band The Grascals, while her mother, Andrea, has worked as a musician, booking agent, and manager. From an early age, Jaelee was immersed in rehearsals, recording sessions, festivals, and performances at the Grand Ole Opry.

Roberts began singing in church and taking fiddle lessons when she was four years old. Over time, she added guitar, mandolin, and piano to her musical repertoire. She also participated in singing, instrumental, clogging, and band competitions before increasingly focusing on songwriting and performance. Her early development included participation in Grammy Camp in Nashville and Los Angeles, as well as showcase appearances at the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass.

In 2021, Roberts signed with Mountain Home Music Company and joined Sister Sadie, the award-winning all-female bluegrass group, as a guitarist and lead vocalist. Her first performance with the band took place at the Grand Ole Opry during a televised celebration of bluegrass music’s 75th anniversary. That appearance fulfilled a lifelong dream for Roberts, who had spent much of her childhood backstage at the Opry. She received the IBMA Momentum Vocalist of the Year award that same year, and Sister Sadie was recognized as IBMA Vocal Group of the Year.

Roberts released her debut album, Something You Didn’t Count On, in 2022. The record reached the Top Ten on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums chart and earned the 2023 SPBGMA Album of the Year award. Roberts was also named SPBGMA Female Vocalist of the Year. Her expressive voice, thoughtful songwriting, and versatility have established her as one of bluegrass’s promising young artists. Alongside performances with Sister Sadie, she has appeared with artists including Ricky Skaggs, Ashley McBryde, and Vince Gill. In September 2023, Roberts made her solo debut at the Grand Ole Opry, further marking her emergence as a distinctive voice in contemporary bluegrass.

Her last album feature here, released in 2025 was Let Me Be Lonely.
