Terry Baucom 1952 – 2023.
Terry Baucom has passed away following a brief but debilitating battle with dementia. Terry was 71 years old, born October 1952.
A native of Monroe, North Carolina, Terry Baucom enjoyed a career in music that started in 1970 with Charlie Moore and continued over the years. Terry was also a founding member of several memorable bands including Boone Creek (with Ricky Skaggs and Jerry Douglas), Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, IIIrd Tyme Out and others.
Terry Baucom was born on October 6, 1952, in Monroe, North Carolina. He enjoyed a remarkable career over fifty years in bluegrass music as a banjo player, band leader, and singer.
He was also the winner of the 2013 IBMA Recorded Event of the Year for his album What’ll I Do, Terry with Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Wyatt Rice, Steve Bryant & Buddy Melton; Produced By Terry Baucom, Cindy Baucom And Ed Lowe; John Boy & Billy Label.
Terry Baucom more recently toured with his own band, Terry Baucom’s Dukes of Drive. A testament to his influence is evident when you listen to countless younger generation banjo players who use Baucom signature licks and emulate his driving technique.
Baucom has won more than a dozen awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and in 2015 was inducted to the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame.
