One of the Bluegrass music’s most talented banjo players Jim Mills, has died this week from a heart attack at age 57. James (Jim) Mills hailed from Durham in North Carolina was born in Raileigh, North Carolina in 1966,

Mills was a celebrated instrumentalist taking out the International Bluegrass Music Association’s banjo player of the year  six times and added to that six Grammy awards. He fell in love with Bluegrass Music at around age 5.  He started playing banjo from age 10 teaching himself to pick in the style of his hero, Earl Scruggs.  He joined a local band Summer Wages and went on to play with Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver for five years. He later received an invitation from Ricky Skaggs to join his band Kentucky Thunder. He spent fifteen years with that band, carving a name for himself among bluegrass enthusiasts and banjos players globally.

Jim Mills was an avid collector of vintage Gibson Mastertone banjos from the pre-war era.
