Laurie Grundy and Denis Eastmure
Sadly we have been advised that Denis Eastmure, banjo player and inlay craftsman well-known and loved on the Victorian bluegrass scene, has passed away at his home last Saturday aged 75 years.
Denis was a typical knock about Aussie bloke with a huge talent, a genius for working in designs and crafted inlays not only in banjos but framed wall pieces as well.
Denis came to the attention of many of us through his inlay work on Laurie Grundy’s banjos. Denis’s inlay worked appears on some 100 Grundy Flint Hill model banjos, each with one of Denis’s unique designs.
In the USA his hand crafted work on banjo fret boards and peg-heads are considered by the experts there to be remarkable & without equal.
…Denis’s inlay work is the first thing that draws attention to my Grundy banjos on display at festivals. His work is simply outstanding and made my banjos look great. I am heart-broken at his passing – Laurie Grundy.
