Tribute to Bill Clifton

Jan Dale has let us know of a short tribute to Bill Clifton to be played on Southern Style next Tuesday, 10th May.

Bill Clifton is a fine BG guitarist and vocalist.  Originally from Maryland he began his music career in 1950  on a  radio station in Charlottesville and also performed at local barn dances while he was a student at University of Virginia where he later earned his Masters Degree.
In June 1953 he started Bill Clifton & The Dixie Mountain Boys & made a number of recordings in the late 1950s and early 1960s,  receiving lots of airplay.
He was also very active in organising and promoting events such as the Newport Folk Festival and one of the earliest single day multi artist outdoor bluegrass events which was held at Luray, Virginia in 1961. Living in England from 1963 to 1978 and organised many folk clubs throughout Europe, promoting and expanding the market for American Bluegrass and folk music on the continent.  He was inducted into the International Bluegrass Hall of Fame in 2008.
