Jan Dale will be featuring a special tribute to Tony Rice on her weekly radio program Southern Style on 19th Jan 2021.
Tony Rice, one of the leading inspirations in bluegrass music since the 1970’s, and was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Association Hall of Fame in 2013. He died on Christmas Day. He was 69.
Tony Rice influences span the range of acoustic music, from straight-ahead bluegrass to jazz-influenced new acoustic music, to songwriter-oriented folk. He was without doubt one of the world’s greatest innovator in acoustic flatpick guitar since Clarence White. Over the course of his career, Tony Rice had played alongside J.D. Crowe and the New South, David Grisman (during the formation of “Dawg Music”), led his own groups, collaborated with fellow picker Norman Blake and recorded with his brothers Larry, Wyatt and Ron Rice.
