The Story Silence Never Told is an emotional ballad that speaks of the horrors of war for World War II era veterans, who came home from gruesome inescapable imagery, and melted into blue-collar family life, rarely speaking experiences, often suppressing their emotions. It was recorded by Caleb Bailey & Paine’s Run and written by Bailey and 2023 IBMA Songwriter of the Year, Tim Stafford. The embellishment by the Dobro, mandolin, fiddle and guitar, render it a journey the listener enjoys following. For Bailey, the song has relevance in our current landscape due to the realness of PTSD.
The story line twists between the young solider writing home during the war, to coming home to blue-collar life and raising a family. The latter portion of the song focuses on the character from the perspective of his grandchild, as being the wise man in the community that told his story through the silence.
Caleb Bailey & Paine’s Run formed in 2021 due to the success of Bailey’s album, Poplar & Pine. The band is based in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and has performed at high-profile fairs, festivals, and concert events this year. Bailey comes from a long line of musical influences in his family.
