The Pigs have launched their new album The Great Bluegrass Swindle. This album, according to the band is a shotgun wedding of bad ass musicianship to a mix of crazy good pop ballads and hip hop covers and Pigs originals added. A fast and furious tractor ride that hints at the uniquely bent energy of The Pigs’ exceedingly popular live shows, The Great Bluegrass Swindle is in a word, Damnfine.
Festival favourites, The Pigs are known for their foot-stomping version of Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies,’ with the video version popping up on Spicks n Specks and as Indie Video of the Week on ABC’s Rage. Most recently The Pigs played their wildly original, countrified and sanctified version of Kanye West’s ‘Gold Digger’ on Australia’s Got Talent. Here’s what the judges had to say:
If you guys made a whole album doing these pop covers in your style I would 100% run out the door to buy it – Brian McFadden.
…you guys are really good at what you do and everybody wants to jump in the Pig Pen now – Danni Minogue.
The Pigs are known worldwide for both their righteous interpretations of other people’s songs and for wowing audiences at venues & festivals around Australia with their infectious original tunes. The super catchy, ‘Hey Christina’ (some say the greatest break up song ever!), and the anthemic and hilarious ‘Macho Moisturiser.’ The new album contains more classic original tunes like ‘She Wants Your Kidney’ and ‘Poor Emily’. This band is way more than a one trick pig!
Recorded over 10 banjo filled days, by legendary producer The Pigs’ Ear, The Great Bluegrass Swindle combines six original tunes with songs the band has made their own – with definitive versions of Kanye West’s ‘Gold Digger’, LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’ and the 80’s classic ‘Just Cant Get Enough‘, and more!
The Great Bluegrass Swindle is a must have, for fans of everything.
Available from October 5 through iTunes and MGM/Green Distribution.
