Mike Scott

Mike Scott to Tour UK

28 Aug, 19 by Greg McGrath Leave a Comment

Mike Scott on banjo to tour UKIt’s not often we get the heads up on news from the UK but recording artist for Rural Rhythm Records Mike Scott will be a featured artist on the upcoming 15 day tour with the popular Irish group Stephen Rosney & The Back Axels. Nasville fiddler Travis Wetzel will also be a featured artist on the tour. The tour dates will cover many key cities in Ireland and the United Kingdom commencing on 12th September.

While playing music around the open heart fire at a traditional session of singing and storytelling in my home house long ago, the local priest suggested a band name and so I thought it appropriate to call ourselves this name “The Back Axles” , as the music of old Ireland plays a big part in our music and song writing today. The band members come from all parts of Ireland bringing with them their own style of music which forms the unique sound of The Back Axles. Hope to meet you all along the way - Stephen Rosney

Highlights of the tour include three days, September 17, 18 and 19, performing at the Irish National Ploughing Championship which will draw an estimated 320,000 audience.

Throughout the tour Mike Scott will be performing music from his four albums. To promote the upcoming tour dates and his music Mike Scott will be on “The All Nighter” with Marcia Campbell live on WSM 650am on Wednesday September 4th at midnight central standard time.

Mike Scott – The Old Country Church

29 Jun, 14 by Greg McGrath

Mike ScottBanjo Master Mike Scott is seen by millions of TV viewers in the USA each week during prime-time on RFD-TV, (60 million households), performing with Ronnie Reno & The Reno Tradition on Reno’s Old Time Music Show. Country, Gospel and Bluegrass fans also enjoyed Scott’s stellar banjo playing for many years as a member of the Virginia Boys who backed Bluegrass legends Jim & Jesse during the 80’s.

The Old Country Church is the fourth album release by Mike Scott on Rural Rhythm and his second gospel title for Rural Rhythm Christian following the 2011 release of Take Me Lord and Use Me.

I was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee. I first heard many of these good old Gospel songs in “The Old Country Church” where I grew up. Sunday afternoons with dinner on the ground is a wonderful memory of fun, friends, food and fellowship. This was just a way of life at our house too. Following the railroad tracks down Piney Flats Road in Watauga, TN is our family’s old two-story farmhouse where I grew up with a big front porch. Friends and family didn’t have to call before coming over. If they saw us out on the porch, they just stopped by, often bringing a basket of homegrown vegetables or some homemade jellies and jams. Before I knew it, Dad had an audience for me and would say, “Mike, get that banjo out.” I played many of these “Old Country Church” songs since most folks were familiar with them. To this day, I still love to have these gatherings and fellowship in the same way, the same songs – Mike Scott.

The Old Country Church contains 13 classic gospel songs performed by many of today’s award winning Bluegrass artists including Adam Steffey, Rob Ickes, Bryan Sutton, Aubrey Haynie, Tim Stafford, and Ben Isaacs. Mike Scott assembled an All-Star group of string musicians to pay tribute to many popular gospel songs through the years, which we now know as traditional standards.

Track List:

01 Will The Circle Be Unbroken
02 The Old Country Church
03 Swing Low Sweet Chariot
04 Pass Me Not
05 When The Saint Go Marching In
06 Where The Soul of Man Never Dies
07 I’ll Fly Away
08 Where The Roses Never Fade
09 When The Angels Carry Me Home
10 Precious Memories
11 Victory In Jesus
12 What A Friend We Have In Jesus
13 I Saw The Light

The Old Country Church is now available for D.J. download on AirPlay Direct. “Where The Soul Of Man Never Dies” has been released as the focus track for radio and appears on the Rural Rhythm Records Fresh Cuts & Key Tracks Radio CD that is now up on AirPlay Direct for D.J. download and the physical CD has been serviced to radio this week.

Mike Scott is also touring nationally with his band “Mike Scott & The Nashville Band” in support of the new album. Go to mikescottmusic.com for tour info.

Mike Scott - Home Sweet HomeRural Rhythm Records is saluting the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War (1861-1865) with an instrumental album titled Home Sweet Home, which contains 14 songs that were popular during the Civil War Era.

I am so excited about this Civil War Era project.  My own banjo heritage traces back to both of my grandfathers.  Also, my great-grandmother “Verdie” on my dad’s side played banjo and was born during the 1860’s Civil War period.  I never had the opportunity to meet any of them, but I am proud to carry on the banjo legacy in our family . I dedicate this project to those who broke through the pages of our nation’s history and paved the way for a better America.  I hope these tunes will touch you and give you a reminder of a period of time captivated as part of our nation’s journey to unity and freedom.  May it bring you joy, put a smile on your face and put some ‘giddy-up’ in your step – Mike Scott.

The songs on Home Sweet Home could be heard during the 1860’s in America’s major cities, small towns, rural areas and soldier encampments during the Civil War.  150 Years later, these American musical treasures can be enjoyed again on this special collection.  These songs should not be lost and forgotten, but passed down to future generations as a part of America’s musical heritage.

Track List:

  1. The Girl I Left Behind Me
  2. Soldier’s Joy
  3. Bill Cheatham
  4. Battle Hymn of The Republic
  5. Home Sweet Home

What folks are saying:

From conception to production to execution, it’s hard to imagine a better bluegrass Christmas experience than what’s offered in Christmas The Mountain Way. Mark it essential – The Bluegrass Special.

If you’re in the mood for some good, down-home bluegrass Christmas music, you should give this album a chance. I’ll keep it in the holiday shuffle on my CD player.  Another plus — the album has introduced me to the breathtaking vocals of Brad Gulley.  For that alone, I give thanks – Parchbench.

Of particular note is the banjo playing of Jason Burleson and the fiddle playing of Brandon Godman. Dale Ann and Steve Gulley perform Christmas the Mountain Way that they wrote together and Brad Gulley gives an inspired performance of O Holy Night. Marty Raybon affirms his faith with his original song, A Way in the Manger – California Bluegrass Association.

A well done CD of Christmas music here that goes far above the average generic Christmas album. I recommend this to everybody this Christmas season – Hudson Valley Bluegrass Assoc.

Nothing sets the heart’s yule log burning like a cup of hot cocoa and the warmth of the Bluegrass Christmas tunes on Rural Rhythm Records CD/DVD Christmas The Mountain Way.   Some of the best voices blending cheerily together in perfect harmony with awesome picking is sure to put you in a nostalgic mood for Christmas.  The rememberances of past holidays with a glad heart to making new memories with family and friends is captured with new joy.    It’s Christmas and the mountain message we remember, was simply Love – Gracie Muldoon, WorldwideBluegrass.com.
