Steve Sparkman Leaves Clinch Mountain Boys

Veteran banjo player, Steve Sparkman, has announced his departure from Ralph Stanley’s Clinch Mountain Boys after more than 16 years in the saddle.

As a Clinch Mountain Boy, Steve has received several IBMA Awards, as well as a Grammy Award for his work on the Lost in the Lonesome Pines project. Word is that he Steve plans to pursue a career in law enforcement in his home state of Kentucky.

Sparkman will be replaced by Jarrod Church, who has filled in for the band on previous occasions. In 2006, Jarrod released a CD which is a tribute to the banjo style of Ralph Stanley and has filled in on dates with the band for several years. Jarrod is also the merchandise manager for the group, a position he has held for more than a  year.
