Southern Style Menu For August

by | 2 Aug, 2010

Here’s some news on what’s coming up on PBS FM 106.7 Southern Style next month with Jan Dale.

10th  August

Local multi-instrumentalist, singer & songwriter Skip Sail will be chatting to Jan Dale about his music and influences and his interesting and unique collection of musical instruments. He’ll be bringing some of these in and playing some tunes live to air.

17th August

World renowned Australian luthier & musician Steven Gilchrist will be in the studio to talk with Jan Dale about crafting his mandolins. He will bring recordings of some of his greatest influences and also playing live to air.  Some award winning Bluegrass musicians play Gilchrist mandolins, including Ronnie McCoury.

24th August

The Lonesome Low will be performing live on Southern Style. They are a Melbourne duo breathing new life into old songs. Graeme Fletcher (guitar/autoharp) is well-known in folk and bluegrass circles as ‘the autoharp guy’ and was guitarist, singer with the country, party band The Horny Toads for many years.  Sue Shaw (mandolin/guitar/autoharp) is perhaps better known as the drummer with Melbourne rock band The Exotics and guitarist with The Hogeye String Band.  The Lonesome Low draw from the deep well of the ‘hillbilly’ music of the Carter Family, the Stanley Brothers, the Louvin Brothers, Hank Williams and more.

Southern Style with Jan Dale – Tuesdays 1:00pm to 3:00pm or online at www.psfm.org.au.
