The folks at Wirrina Festival have announced American trio Smith, Allen & Peterson will be featured at this year’s festival. Beverly Smith, Kellie Allen, and Pete Peterson, award-winning players of Old-Time Music, have combined their talents to visit us in Australia. Beverly (fiddle, guitar, mandolin), Kellie (guitar, bass, mandolin) & Pete (banjo, guitar, autoharp) will spend a month or so travelling on the East Coast before coming to South Australia.
Having the old-timey trio for the festival also provides an opportunity to run a 3 day music camp prior to the festival with Beverly, Kellie and Pete as tutors. All of them have extensive teaching experience in the USA, where these camps are very popular.
About Wirrina 2022:
- Camp dates: Tuesday Nov 22nd-Thursday Nov 24th (arrive Monday 21st for those staying on site).
- Location: Wirrina Cove Holiday Park (same as festival). Camping (powered/unpowered) and some cabins available; resort rooms up the hill if you prefer hotel-style accommodation.
- Cost: $280 covers all group tuition & activities over the 3 days – that’s less than $50 per half day (or lesson). Accommodation is to be booked separately. Catered dinners be available at extra cost, more information closer to time.
Organisers are calling for expressions of interest for the music camp now. Please email wi**************@gm***.com to put your name down tell them what instrument(s) you play and approximate ability/experience. Make sure you write ‘Camp’ in the subject line!
Other tutors are likely to be engaged if enough is forthcoming. Organisers hope to cover the range of string band instruments and multiple styles to have something for everyone.
Cut off date for withdrawal / payment due in full end of September.
More information coming out regarding payments and details of program over the next few weeks, but if you’re interested in attending, please check your calendars now.
Classes will include instrument-specific instruction to help you improve your playing, as well as some ‘themed’ classes (eg Carter Family style), and a class in songwriting.
Expect evening activities too! A full schedule to help you develop more skill and kick start your festival weekend.
More information through our website www.wirrinabluegrass.com coming soon.
I am keen to do the boot camp, I will travel from Adelaide each day as I have family so I just need to know what time does it start and end for the day?
Thanks Rhil,
