One of the hottest bands to come out of New York in recent years is the Punch Brothers featuring Chris Thile on mandolin and lead vocals, Noam Pikelny on banjo, Gabe Witcher on fiddle, Chris Eldridge on guitar, and Paul Kowert on bass. The Punch Brothers deliver an exhilarating blend of progressive bluegrass, alt-country and contemporary pop sensibilities.
After Nickel Creek disbanded in 2007, mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile assembled an all-star quintet called Punch Brothers, the name apparently taken from the line of a Mark Twain short story A Literary Nightmare.
Appearing at the Adelaide International Guitar Festival in August the band will also play the new Melbourne Recital Centre, their first visit to Melbourne. We can find no mention of any dates in Sydney at this stage.
Punch Brothers appearing:
- 6th August 2012, Melbourne Recital Centre
- 10th August 2012, Adelaide Guitar Festival – Adelaide Festival Centre
