Peter Sarsgaard, a devoted bluegras music fan, is likely to star in a new movie depicting the life and times of Bill Monroe. The project, including the script for the movie, is still in development but the cinema gossip sites have Callie Khouri (Thelma and Louise) being approached to assist in script development.
Various sites have the movie being directed by Finn Taylor – The Darwin Awards – with the likelihood of it being a small-budget independent film. The movie has no title as yet and has been pegged as a passion for Sarsgaard, whose recent big screen appearance was as a villain in the new Green Lantern movie.
Bill Monroe is responsible for the bluegrass genre which he developed and refined through a career that spanned some 50 years. Monroe, who died at age 84, has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993.
