Mountain Fever Records has announced the release of Casey Penn’s debut album, One Step Away.
I dedicate the album to the memory of my father, Chuck Hanes, my biggest fan and who lived his life in faith, One Step Away from Heaven – Casey Penn.
Musicians on One Step Away include Casey Penn on lead and select harmony vocals; Justin Moses on banjo, resophonic guitar, and mandolin; Jason Roller on fiddle, rhythm, and lead guitar; Kevin Grant on bass; Tim Crouch on fiddle on the Prelude; Thomm Jutz on lead guitar on Journey to Providence; Scott Mulvahill on cello on How to Bend. Casey features a host of talent on harmony vocals, including Larry Cordle, Carl Jackson, Chris Latham, Tim Raybon, Mike Rogers, and Val Storey. Mountain Fever Records’ owner, Mark Hodges served as executive producer, and Casey Penn and Chris Latham produced.

The title track was composed by Penn, who co-wrote five additional tracks on the album.

Three singles were previously released, including We Go Together Like a Guitar and a Fiddle, Little Lives, and Chasing Rainbows, which appeared on the Bluegrass Today’s Top 20 Song chart. Additional tracks include:

With this album, Casey Penn steps firmly into a solo career. She has assembled a touring band and is building on past acclaim, particularly for her songwriting. Her original song, Oceans, co-written with Rodger King, received an honourable mention in the Hazel Dickens Songwriting Competition (2016). In addition, Casey is a past winner in the Arkansas Talent Search Songwriting Competition, an official nominee for the Arkansas Country Music Awards Songwriter of the Year award, and a 2022 winner in the New Song Showcase at Walnut Valley Festival Competition for her cowrite with Rodger King, “No More Tears.”
