New Single Once Again From Corn Nut Creek Set For Release 5th June.
Australian and American folk duo Corn Nut Creek have announced the release of their latest single Once Again, set to release on 5th June.
Once Again is a song about letting go of the past, facing your demons and reclaiming your true self. Dani VIta’s inspiration for the lyrics came from her wedding song, post divorce.
Nothing stings quite like listening to your wedding song for the first time ten years after your divorce. Ray La Montagne used to be one of my and my ex-husband’s favourite artists. I had gone to see him perform live a few times. He was so special to us that we decided to make one of his songs our wedding song. I suppose it was a terrible idea because it kind of ruined Ray for me for quite some time after our separation. One day I thought to myself – that’s enough. I’m done giving up this music that I’ve felt so connected to. Enough time has passed that I really need to face this head-on so I can keep listening to his music without all the baggage that it brings up. I listened, I cried and then I danced in celebration for taking my songs back – Dani Vita.
Once Again first took shape back in 2018, but much like the journey of life, the song underwent so much growth and change from the original track. At that time we were still living in New York and Melbourne and missing each other heaps. Writing music together was a way of continuing to feel connected to one another and bridging the distance of 9,000 miles – Dani and Tanya.
I love the journey this song has been on. It began as a slow, nostalgic waltz and I was originally playing piano accordion on it! We played with it for years before settling on the current version which is just so much fun. I love Dani’s soulful vocal and the rollicking nature of the song. I also love the idea of just saying, ‘F this, I’m going to listen to my songs anyway!’. This is the closest to an old-timey dance party that Corn Nut Creek has ever gotten and I am totally here for it – Tanya Bradley.
The duo recorded Once Again as part of their first full album, set to release in November 2023. The single also features Australian mandolinist Pepita Emmerichs of Oh Pep! and Australian bassist Kimberley Wheeler. An important component of their project is working primarily with other female artists and lifting up other women in the industry. The duo reflected on their recording experience that it,
Felt like magic recording in the middle of the Victorian bush with kangaroos hopping about, surrounding a beautiful mudbrick house. We couldn’t have chosen a better location to feel connected to the music and one another. We drew influences from everywhere – old classic acts like Fleetwood Mac, Dolly Parton and Joan Baez but also Sierra Ferrell, Uncle Earl, I’m With Her and The Secret Sisters. We sometimes amaze ourselves with how exact our musical tastes are! We’re pretty sure we are as close to sisters that you can get without actually being related – Corn Nut Creek.
Corn Nut Creek are heading of on tour in June.
