Dan Tyminski To Release His New Bluegrass Album – God Fearing Heathen.
A 14 time Grammy Award winner returns to his bluegrass roots as Dan Tyminski releases the anticipated album, God Fearing Heathen.
God Fearing Heathen marks Tyminski’s first bluegrass album in 15 years and his first ever album of original bluegrass compositions in a homecoming studio set that starts a new chapter for one of the genre’s most celebrated contemporary figures.
Also taking the reins as producer for the first time, God Fearing Heathen. finds Tyminski leading a new lineup of The Dan Tyminski Band and following up successes in Americana (Southern Gothic) and international pop (Avicii’s “Hey Brother”), injecting fresh energy into a classic art form.
Executive produced by Noah Gordon, God Fearing Heathen features 10 new songs in total, including a new, bluegrass version of the 1 billion+ streaming Hey Brother, which made its debut at #2 on the Bluegrass Today Chart. The new album is already receiving critical praise from across the media landscape and across the globe.
No Depression calls attention to Tyminski’s unmistakable “raspy baritone,” saying each song “shines with radiant vocals, sparkling instrumentation, and lyrical virtuosity.”
The Tennessean lauds the album’s “lyrical freshness and resonance with the modern era,” while American Songwriter notes Tyminski remains “just as committed” to bluegrass as he was on the Grammy® winning I Am a Man Of Constant Sorrow from Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?.
Plus, Americana-UK calls the project “simply spellbinding,” and “a homecoming album for a bluegrass master at the peak of his and his band’s powers.” Giving the album a “9/10” rating, the digital mag says the “fantastic” God Fearing Heathen “pays magnificent homage to the beauty of the genre’s more original formats, albeit with a bang up-to-date vibe on the production and arrangements.”
Meanwhile, the album and its first single are also building momentum at terrestrial radio.
Hey Brothe currently sits at Number 4 on the Bluegrass Today Chart (jumping up from Number 18 last week), and is also nearing the Top 40 at Americana radio. Likewise, the album has risen into the Top 20 of the Roots Music Report’s Contemporary Bluegrass Chart, Top 30 at RMR Bluegrass and Top 25 of the Americana Music Association’s Top 200 Americana Albums chart – looking set to continue climbing.
In celebration of the album’s release, Tyminski appeared on the iconic Grand Ole Opry and will host the official God Fearing Heathen album-release show at East Nashville’s American Legion Post 82 on 28th June 28.
Looking ahead, The Dan Tyminski Band will then spend all summer on tour, with a series of festival and headline dates scattered across the Eastern U.S. and beyond.
