Sadly we received news today that original Dillard’s band member Mitch Jayne passed away this week in Columbia, Missouri after a battle with cancer.
Mitch was the Dillard’s bass player who in the late 1950’s invited Rodney and Doug Dillard to play on his regular and popular Hickory Hollow bluegrass show. Rod and Doug Dillard and later invited Mitch to join the group. After quickly teaching himself to play the bass, he accepted the invitation. Aside from being a musician, Mitch has worked as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse, a radio host, and an more recently author and some of Mitch’s most memorable books include Fiddler’s Ghost and Old Fish Hawk.
Mitch was an excellent story teller saw him as the ever humorous spokesperson for the band.
