Laura Orshaw

IBMA Award-winning artist Laura Orshaw has released an upbeat, bluegrass version of inspiring track, Hank.

The first release since she signed with Dark Shadow Recording, Hank was originally released by indie-folk duo Tattletale Saints. Orshaw immediately resonated with the lyrics which led it to be the debut track from her forthcoming record due out later this year.

Laura Orshaw HankProduced by Dark Shadow label head Stephen Mougin, Hank poetically tells the story of Hank Williams, who was a huge influence on Orshaw.

When I was growing up, my dad had a bluegrass and country radio show, and he kept his music library in our basement. Like a kid in a candy store, on weekends I would go down and pick something out to listen to on the little boom box in my room. Certain voices mesmerized me from the moment I first heard them, and Hank Williams was one of those. I just had to immerse myself in his sound and songs, tracking down everything I could about his music and life. Connections to childhood memories are some of the strongest, and so I identified with the lyrics to “Hank” immediately. These moments of awe, inspiration, and connection are what keeps me playing and singing to this day – Laura Orshaw.

Currently in-studio wrapping up production on Orshaw’s latest record, Mougin was immediately on board with Hank being Orshaw’s lead-off single. “

This track was a lot of fun to put together, especially with these musicians. I’m thrilled with how easy the song sounds, despite its quick tempo. Laura knocked it out of the park with her vocal and fiddle work on this cut, digging deep to her traditional roots. The track really makes me want to throw some Hank Williams on the turntable – Stephen Mougin.

The Music video (below) was filmed during the album tracking in Dark Shadow Recording studio in December 2021. The video features, Laura Orshaw on vocal and fiddle; BB Bowness on banjo; Casey Campbell on mandolin; Alan Bartram on bass; Tony Watt on guitar and Alecia Nugent singing harmony.
