Earl Scruggs
Mikael Wood from the LA Times attended the Earl Scruggs concert at UCLA’s Royce Hall last week. His subsequent review is a strange one. His peripheral exploration of Scruggs’ history and his description of the concert suggest that he was somewhat misplaced as were his expectations of a Scruggs concert.
Nevertheless this is an amazing achievement that Earl Scruggs is still playing banjo and performing live at age 87.
…you didn’t sense much of that evangelical zeal at Royce Hall, where Scruggs and his accompanists performed their ministrations with an almost comic impassivity; this was a no-frills affair reflected in the title of the bluegrass standard “Doin’ My Time,” which the group played roughly halfway through its 75-minute set… – Mikael Wood.
You can read the review on the LA Times website.
