Founding member of both the Country Gentlemen and Seldom Scene, mandolin player and singer John Duffey died of a heart attack on 10th December 1996 at age 62. John Duffey was best known for his high lonesome tenor voice and his brilliantly innovative mandolin playing. He has also been credited, particularly amongst his fellow musicians, as a great missionary taking and popularising bluegrass music.
On Tuesday 16th August Jan Dale’s Southern Style radio show will be presenting a tribute to the late John Duffey.
Southern Style can also be streamed to your computer, so you might like to also catch Jan’s special in the archives of the PBS website.
