Imbil Acoustic Music Festival

A brief history of the Imbil Acoustic Music Weekend.

The Acoustic Music Weekend kicked off around 30 years ago with a group of friends all with a common interest in assorted styles of acoustic music including Bluegrass, Old time, Celtic, Western Swing, Gypsy Jazz, and early string bands.

The weekend was primarily a session weekend and eventually evolved to include a concert on the Saturday night and workshops from our musicians with music to share. This format in its simplest form allowed us all to catch up with friends and meet new musicians with similar interests.

The not-for-profit entry fee went mostly towards PA hire and payment of visiting workshop leaders

The early festivals were made up of mostly people from the southeast Qld and as the word got around, we have had people from all most parts of the country.

This grass roots format allows the weekend to remain focussed on session-based music (jam sessions) rather than performance.

We wish to continue this vision and format for ongoing Imbil Acoustic Music Weekends with the emphasis on sessions and musicianship development rather than just entertainment for spectators.
