Jana Mougin

Following the sucess of the single If I Didn’t Love You released in April 2023, Jana Mougin celebrates Valentine’s Day with the release of the music video.

Jana released eight albums as lead vocalist/bass player for the band Fragment from Czech and Slovak Republic in 1994-2005 and has appeared as a guest vocalist on many American albums after she relocated to the United States, but If I Didn’t Love You┬áis the first single released as a solo artist on Dark Shadow Recording.

The single reached #5 on the Bluegrass Today weekly airplay chart and #2 on the Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Bluegrass Songs.

This song is a celebration of love and long-lasting relationships and I can’t imagine a better day for the video release. Also, later this week my husband Stephen and I will celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary! I had a vision to film the video with our friends, musicians who’ve been a part of our journey either in music career, or personal life. We gathered at our friend’s house to film and it felt like a picking party. Scheduling was the hardest part and even though some of our friends and original studio musicians couldn’t join us, an opportunity opened for two musicians representing the youngest generation in bluegrass – Wyatt Elllis on mandolin and our son Sammy on bass. They are buddies, they played a few shows together in the past few years and always like to hang out. Special thanks to Mike Scott who joined us on the banjo! Also, I am honored that Jacky Jack White, who co-wrote this song with Jon Vezner more 30 years ago for Steve Wariner, accepted our invitation. You can see him in the role of the songwriter in this video – Jana Mougin.

Musicians on the track include Dan Tyminski on guitar, Ron Block on banjo, Sierra Hull on mandolin, Stuart Duncan onfiddle, Tod Livingston on Dobro, Lauren Mascitti and Stephen Mougin on harmony vocal. Stephen was also the producer, recording and mixing engineer.

The band in the video is comprised of: Stuart Duncan on fiddle, Tod Livingston on Dobro, Mike Scott on banjo, Stephen Mougin on guitar and harmony vocals, Wyatt Ellis on mandolin) and Sammy Mougin on bass.

The special guests in the video included doctor and guitar player Justin Reno (Don Reno’s grandson), cellist/vocalist Julie Adams, journalist Nancy Posey with her husband Richard, jazz singer Holly Yarbrough-Burnett with her husband Robert, Dieta Duncan and guitar player Brian Berryman.
