About Tony Kamel:

Tony Kamel is a Houston-born singer, songwriter, guitarist, banjo player, and multi-instrumentalist whose music draws from bluegrass, traditional country, folk, Americana, and the distinctive roots sounds of the Texas Gulf Coast. Based in Austin, Texas, Kamel is best known as the frontman and a founding member of the Grammy-nominated bluegrass group Wood & Wire.

Kamel began playing music at approximately twelve years old after discovering his mother’s classical guitar. Although Houston was not traditionally known as a bluegrass center, he developed an early love of classic country, psychedelic rock, and improvisational music. In high school, exposure to jam bands led him toward bluegrass, and he eventually worked backward through the music’s history, studying recordings by Bill Monroe and other foundational artists. Before committing fully to music, Kamel worked in medical sales, but his passion for songwriting and performance ultimately brought him into Austin’s vibrant acoustic-music community.

In 2011, Kamel helped form Wood & Wire, an Austin-based string band known for its energetic performances, collaborative songwriting, and live-in-the-studio recording approach. The group’s music combines the drive and precision of bluegrass with the openness of contemporary roots music. Wood & Wire released several albums, toured extensively, and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album for North of Despair. Kamel’s warm, weathered voice and rhythmic guitar playing became central to the band’s sound, while his songs often reflected family history, travel, memory, and life in Texas.

Following Wood & Wire’s hiatus in 2020, Kamel expanded his work as a solo artist. His debut solo album, Back Down Home, was released through Bruce Robison’s The Next Waltz label and explored a broad range of country-folk, old-time, bluegrass, and Gulf Coast influences. The record presents Kamel as both an engaging storyteller and a versatile instrumentalist, balancing relaxed performances with thoughtful, finely crafted songs. He has also released We’re All Gonna Live, a collection described as humane, optimistic, and rooted in contemporary country-folk.

Whether performing alone with guitar, banjo, and harmonica or leading a full bluegrass ensemble, Kamel brings an informal, generous stage presence to his music. His work remains grounded in tradition while embracing the freedom, humor, and individuality of modern Americana.

About Kym Warner:

Kym Warner is an Australian-born mandolinist, vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer whose work bridges bluegrass, newgrass, country, and contemporary Americana. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Warner grew up surrounded by music. His father, a respected multi-instrumentalist and early Australian bluegrass pioneer, introduced him to the sounds of Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and other roots-music legends.

A four-time Australian National Mandolin Champion, Warner began touring the Australian Outback in the early 1990s. In 1995, he studied and performed American roots music at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, deepening his connection to the musical traditions that would shape his career. After several years of touring Australia, he relocated to the United States in 2001 with fellow Australian musician Carol Young.

Together, Warner and Young founded The Greencards in Austin, Texas. The band developed a distinctive sound that combined bluegrass instrumentation with progressive arrangements, strong songwriting, and influences ranging from Bob Dylan and Tom Petty to Fleetwood Mac, Lyle Lovett, and New Grass Revival. As a founding member, Warner toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Australia, recorded six studio albums, and helped establish The Greencards as one of the most innovative acoustic groups in the Americana scene. The band received three Grammy nominations, earned a No. 1 Billboard bluegrass album, won an Americana Award for Best New Artist, and toured nationally with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson.

Warner released his debut solo album, Everything That Brought Me Here, in 2015. The instrumental collection featured contributions from musicians including Tommy Emmanuel, Dan Dugmore, Jedd Hughes, and Jeff Taylor. He later joined Robert Earl Keen’s touring and studio band, performing at major venues and festivals including the Ryman Auditorium, Red Rocks, and Carnegie Hall. Warner has also worked with artists such as Lyle Lovett, Ricky Skaggs, Willie Nelson, Hayes Carll, and Ray Wylie Hubbard.

In 2022, Warner was inducted into the South Australian Music Hall of Fame. He continues to perform, record, and explore acoustic music through collaborations including his duo project with Tony Kamel of Wood & Wire.
