Mustered Courage and the Davidson Brothers will be teaming up for a special night of banjo pickin’, harmony singing and original kickin’ tunes at The Northcote Social Club, Wednesday December 14th. The two hottest young acts in Australian Bluegrass have both been in the spotlight this year following the release of their critically acclaimed albums. Both bands’ new breed of bluegrass has wowed the country music scene and attracted many newcomers to the genre with their alt-country crossover.
Mustered Courage recently garnered a great deal of attention on YouTube and the Country Music Channel where their version of Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose,” which now sits comfortably in the Top 50 charts. Although the video has welcomed a healthy following, the band is asserting itself as not just another gimmicky bluegrass act. The self-titled album (released by Laughing Outlaw Records) is a collection of 11 original, poignant and colourful neo-bluegrass tunes and the one cheeky R’N’B cover. The album debuted as ‘Album of the Week’ on ABC Radio Australia in September and has just received a 4-star review in ‘The Herald Sun’ and 3 and ½ stars in both ’The Age’ and ‘Sydney Morning Herald’ – which states that, ‘Mustered Courage make something old sound fresh with as much enthusiasm as skill’. Only encouraged by the positive ruckus, Mustered Courage has now recently released their new music video and original single “Money Mouth,” featuring a sound and vibe they can call their own.

The Davidson Brothers’ latest album, Here To Stay was released in July 2011 and contains eleven new tracks, ten of which are written by the brothers. It features many of Hamish and Lachlan’s favourite Nashville session musicians playing with them on a wide range of tracks – from a 180 beat per minute banjo instrumental to more classic stories of heartbreak and Australian culture. Whilst “Here To Stay” remains steeped in bluegrass tradition, it contains a dash of new grass flavours and is patented with Davidson Brothers’ live energy.
