1999 Australian Custom Handmade D’Oole (Left-Handed) 5 String Open Back Banjo.
In Very Good Condition. When I bought this it needed a lot of work. I had to clean all the metal parts and give it a full professional set-up
It now plays and sounds great. This is a quality instrument and is the perfect banjo for any professional left-handed banjo player.
This is a great opportunity to get an excellent deal on a hand-made Australian professional instrument.
Typical price for this banjo is AU$2,200 new.
Made by Pat Doole of Geelong, Victoria Australia – Serial # 7 99 154.
Pat D’Oole has now retired from making banjos and Ray Black has taken over making this brand in recent years. He is known for his quality hand-made banjos using both local and imported timbers and Custom made hardware.
Features:
Steel Tension Hoop 28 Round Hooks and 5/16″ Hex Nuts Grover Bridge Nickel Plated Hardware (gold-plated 5th string tuner) |
22 Frets Adjustable Truss Rod 1.3″ Nut Width Pearl Star Inlays Hard Case Included |
I’m unsure of all the timbers used, but looks to be a rosewood fret board, mahogany ply rim and perhaps a red gum neck with ebony veneered headstock front and back.
Asking Price AU$1,500.
Overview:
The Machine Heads hold great tune, Not sure why but the 5th string tuner is gold-plated.
The Hard Case has a few marks and dents from usual travel and wear and tear. The Case is not the best fit but has foam added around the instrument to stop it moving around.
There is a few minor cosmetic marks on the back of the neck where lacquer has shrunk around what it looks like to be grain filler and a few tiny lacquer ships and marks from capos which is standard on a used banjo or fretted instrument.
The serial number is stamped on the tension hoop where the neck meets the body. (see image 5) I understand this stands for the 154th banjo he has built and was completed in July 1999.
Plenty of volume as this is a quality instrument. Great fat, warm tone, full of body
Would be perfect for both bluegrass and old-time style players
This instrument has some weight which indicates a quality banjo
Banjo weighs approx. 4.5 kg (10 lbs)
In Case the weight is approx. 7 kg
