Released today via Bonfire Music Group, this single serves as the latest release from the Irish-born singer’s forthcoming project Promised Land. The entire collection will be available 21st July. Fans can download and/or stream Danny Boy here.

I’ve always loved the Johnny Cash rendition of ‘Danny Boy’ from the American recordings with Rick Rubin. I started singing this song with a pedal steel player a few years back at a show at the House of Blues in Cleveland and it went over really well, so I thought I’d work out my own version. Then I got Tim O’Brien to cut it over at Neal Cappellino’s studio in Nashville. Tim’s singing on this, and it just made me weep – Danny Burns.

With the new single, Burns showcases his Bluegrass side. The song Danny Boy has roots that date all the way back to 1910, when it was first created as an Irish ballad. Over the years it has evolved and been covered by an array of well-known acts like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton and more. In the latest rendition by Burns and O’Brien, the dynamic pair showcases their softer side by delivering a more acoustic approach. Joining them on instrumentals are Scott Vestal on banjo, Billy Contreras on fiddle, Tony Wray on guitar and Ethan Burkhardt on upright bass. The track was recorded at Neal Cappellino’s Doghouse Studios with engineering and mixing by Grammy-winning sound engineer Brandon Bell.

In addition to the new single, other songs featured on the collection include a version of Danny Burns performing Adele’s Someone Like You with an upbeat Roots twist. It went on to become his very first No. 1 on the Bluegrass Today charts and was quickly followed by the second charting anthem Some Might Say. Whatever each listener’s preferred music taste, there is something for everyone on the new album.
