Country Roads at The Vanguard

Vanguard

Country roads all lead to the Vanguard on 1st of February 2013, for a night of bluegrass, folk and country music featuring some of Sydney’s finest. The Steamgrass Boys and the Green Moahir Suits are joining forces with Canadian folk rockers The River and the Road and Elana Stone’s brand new all girl country band All Our Exes Live In Texas.

For one night only the Vanguard will transform itself into an old time station inn. The joint will be ringing with the sounds of banjos and fiddles, the floor will be stomping with a 2 step and they’ll be plenty of whiskey in the jar. The high energy pickin’ and singin’ of Bellyache Ben, the garage grass and sweet Harmonies of the Mohairs, the jungle folk of the RATR and the country sass of the Ex Texans make for a stella musical line up! So don your cowboy boots and hats, pull on your overalls and flanny’s and brew some moonshine because this is a night not to be missed.

The Steamgrass Boys

Fronted by blue mountains brothers Ben and James Daley the Steamgrass Boys deliver high energy Australian folk music. Highly accomplished pickers and singers, their unique approach forges elements of bluegrass, country, old timey, gospel, and jazz into a twisted junkyard folk sound they call steamgrass. From the sugar cane fields of North QLD to Old Fremantle jail, their stories are inspired Aussie folklore and contemporary Australian life.

The Green Mohair Suits

The sweeping, expansive clatter and twang The Green Mohair Suits pushes their country, folk and bluegrass roots as much as it respects them. A quartet of expressive songwriters that take their four-part harmonising as seriously as they take their dedication to a drunken good time, featuring Brian Campeau, Richie Cuthbert (Cuthbert & The Nightwalkers), Jason Mannell and Ben Romalis.

The River and the Road

The River and The Road, formed in 2011, is a Jungle Folk band based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. The band has developed a sound which pushes the boundaries of the Folk genre, yet their attentiveness to the roots of Folk and Rock music can be easily recognized through their songwriting and powerful harmonies.

All Our Exes Live in Texas

The night will also feature the debut performance of new all girl country outfit All Our Exes Live In Texas. This group boasts some of Sydney’s finest singers in Elana Stone, Georgia Mooney, Katie Whighton and Hannah Crofts. Their country sass, good looks and sweet harmonies are sure to melt the hearts of everyone in attendance.
