Cooks River Bluegrass Review

by | 9 Aug, 2008

What a night was had at the inaugural Cooks River Bluegrass Concert and Jam! Great venue, great turnout (at least 150 people), great musical line-up, and excellent food!

The event was organised by well known Dobro picker Gary Brown, with help from Hunter and Susie Owens, and I think I speak for the majority of those that attended when I say Cook’s River Bluegrass was a RAGING success!

The venue is quite old and may be easily overlooked from the street, but as soon as we stepped inside you could see that it was going to be a great bluegrass venue. Clean, smoke free, well heated, heaps of seating, a good sized dance floor and a well positioned stage made for pleasant surroundings. To top it off there is the cutest little restaurant down the back, white table cloths, flowers, tea light candles- so sweet! The food was good and at a great price and the venue is family friendly with children welcome!

Heather Mandich & Southern Alliance left no one doubting they love to do what they do!

The concert was wound up by another set from Cookin’ Grass with Hunter and Susie Owens, who had the crowd up dancing. After the concert, there was an all in jam session that went on till closing time at 10pm.

The next Cook’s River Bluegrass Concert and Jam will be held at the Cooks River Motor Boat Club, Holbeach Rd Tempe on Sunday the 24th of August at 3.30pm – Make sure you don’t miss it!
