Code of Conduct for IBMA Email List

by | 23 Dec, 2014

OIMBALogon December 9, the IBMA board suspended operation of members list-server due to abuse and perceived abuse that was impacting IBMA staff and members. IBMA Board Chair Jon Weisberger reactivated the IT Advisory Committee with the goal of a list of possibilities to maintain a useful discourse and, as much as practical, minimize abuse to staff and members. Jon Weisberger appointed Ben Surratt as Chair of the committee and several other past members of the IT committee reassembled for the project. IBMA member Howard Parker, a veteran of several list-servers also agreed to join the committee for this project.

The conclusion of the committee was to keep the current Google list-server platform and establish a Code of Conduct for using the list, and a team of moderators to step in when a member reported abuse. The full report given to the IBMA Executive Committee on this project will be posted to the members list, as well as the Code of Conduct, and the procedure to be followed when abuse is reported.

The Chair of the IT Advisory Committee would like to recognise the efforts of the members of the committee Archie Warnock, Howard Parker, Meg McNair and Ryan Baker for their work in this project.

IBMA Members Community Code of Conduct
This forum/list is owned and managed by IBMA for the sole use of its membership. It has been created so that you can exchange ideas related to the IBMA and bluegrass music and converse with other members who share a common interest in a safe and respectful environment.
These guidelines are modeled after the Ubuntu Code of Conduct: http://www.ubuntu.com/about/about-ubuntu/conduct. Be nice. We’re all part of the same community, so be friendly, be welcoming, and generally be a nice person. Be someone who other people want to be around.

Be respectful and constructive. We’re a very diverse group, so we’re not going to agree all the time. Remember to be respectful and constructive with your communication to your fellow list-mates. Don’t get into flamewars, don’t make personal attacks, don’t vent or rant un-constructively. Threats, rudeness, or inflammatory posts will not be tolerated. Everyone should take responsibility for the community and take the initiative to diffuse tension and stop a potential flamewar or negative thread as early as possible.

Be collaborative. Work together! We can learn a lot from each other. Share knowledge, help each other out.
Participate. This is YOUR community, so be a part of it! Join in on discussions, offer feedback, and offer to help carry out that feedback.

The fine print: In summary, use your common sense, treat others as you’d expect to be treated and help us build a great community experience for everyone. The moderators of the group reserve the right to delete posts that violate this code of conduct.

A link to this document will be included in the footer of every post. IBMA reserves the right to amend this policy. Questions or concerns about this – or it’s list-server policies should be sent to mo*******@ib**.org.
