Mountain Fever Records Release Shannon Slaughter’s Child of the Mountain.

Mountain Fever Records has announced the release of Shannon Slaughter’s new single, Child of the Mountain, marking his debut release on the label and the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his career. The track reflects on identity, place, and the lasting influence of mountain culture on the human experience, shaping both perspective and sense of self.

Child of the Mountain finds Slaughter exploring the idea that the mountains shape not only where we come from, but who we become. Slaughter shares a powerful connection to the region’s landscapes and traditions, drawing inspiration from the sense of grounding and direction they provide. That sentiment was brought to life in collaboration with longtime friend and acclaimed songwriter Tim Stafford, whose lyrical craftsmanship helped transform the concept into a vivid and emotionally resonant piece.

I have a kinship with the mountains, though I didn’t grow up in Virginia or the Carolinas, and I believe that the mountains get inside your soul and really provide a direction to your life. I brought this idea to Tim Stafford, and he jumped on it, and being one of my favorite writers, he did what he does best – Shannon Slaughter.

Child of the Mountain features Shannon Slaughter on lead vocal and guitar, supported by Cliff Bailey on bass and harmony vocals, Trevor Watson on banjo and harmony vocals, Ron Inscore on mandolin, Michael Cleveland on fiddle, and Gary Hultman on Dobro.

Child of the Mountain was produced by Shannon Slaughter and engineered, mixed, and mastered by Wes Easter at Eastman Studios in Cana, Virginia, bringing together a seasoned lineup of musicians and a polished, traditional bluegrass sound rooted in strong musicianship and thoughtful production.

Built on classic bluegrass instrumentation and sincere storytelling, Child of the Mountain reflects a strong sense of place and emotional depth. The song blends traditional roots with a modern sensibility, offering a sound that feels both familiar and fresh. It connects with listeners through its honesty and universal theme of how place and experience shape who we are.

Child of the Mountain is now available on all streaming platforms. Radio programmers can access the new release through Airplay Direct.
