Butch Baldassari, diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor back in May 2007, passed away last Saturday morning. Butch was a highly respected Nashville musician, a successful record producer and an associate professor of mandolin at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music. Butch is survived by his wife Sinclair and son Blake.
Butch’s instructional videos, books and tapes are among the most widely used by aspiring mandolin players, and his workshops at festivals including Telluride, Rocky Grass Bluegrass Academy, Winterhawk and Grass Valley are standing-room only sessions. His annual appearances at the Classical Mandolin Society are among the event’s most popular.
