Huckleberry Records Releases Booth Shot Abraham By Jeff Daugherty.

Huckleberry Records has announced the release of Booth Shot Abraham, the compelling debut single from singer-songwriter Jeff Daugherty.

Daugherty’s song is told from the chilling perspective of the firearm used in one of the most infamous moments in American history, the song delivers a striking blend of storytelling, historical reflection, and haunting Americana.

Booth Shot Abraham is available to radio now via Get It Played.

Booth Shot AbrahamOpening with vivid imagery, Booth Shot Abraham traces the origins of the weapon itself, forged molten hot in Philadelphia and out of German steel. The song places listeners inside the fateful night at Ford’s Theatre when President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Rather than focusing on the assassin, the narrative lens turns toward the object that carried out the act, exploring themes of responsibility, legacy, and the weight of history.

With lines like:

  • Folks call me a pocket cannon. I’m easy to conceal and Throw that ball of lead so fast. Make it fly so straight and true

the song personifies the pistol that fired the fatal shot. The haunting chorus underscores the strange afterlife of the artifact:

  • Now I live in shame. Forever under glass. Don’t blame me, it ain’t my fault That Booth shot Abraham.

The idea for this song was brought by in my cowriter, and good friend, C.J. Lewandowski. After a bit of research on the firearm used by Booth, the ideas started flowing. Having C.J. come in and sing harmony on it was a no brainer and he brought in fellow Po’ Ramblin’ Boy Jereme Brown to hit that high tenor like only he can. Mike Bub, Mike Compton, and Jake Clayton rounded out the band and Grammy winner Joe West brought it to life in the producer’s chair – Jeff Daugherty.

Featuring an all-star lineup of musicians and anchored by Daugherty’s vivid storytelling, Booth Shot Abraham stands as a powerful reminder that history often lingers in unexpected voices. Jeff Daugherty on lead vocal and guitar, C.J. Lewandowski on harmony vocal,
Jereme Brown on harmony vocal, Mike Bub on bass, Mike Compton on mandolin, Jake Clayton on Dobro.

About Jeffery Daugherty:

Jeffrey Daugherty writes and sings American roots music that threads bluegrass precision with folk storytelling and a lean strain of hill-country rock under a classic-rock undertow. His sound is burnished rather than slick: elegant picking, close vocal blends, and arrangements that leave room for air and feeling. Rugged at the edges, warm at the center, it welcomes both families and die-hard music lovers.

In the last year alone he carried that approach to 186 stages across the United States—intimate rooms, theaters, songwriter gatherings, and bluegrass/folk festivals—delivering a show shaped by dynamics, craft, and easy rapport. The music can whisper and it can kick, and the band pivots accordingly. What lingers are tuneful hooks and stories that feel lived-in.

Away from the spotlight, Daughtry pours into the craft. He collaborates on new material, offers one-on-one song development, and leads classes on melody design, lyric editing, arranging for acoustic ensembles, and stagecraft for attentive rooms. The aim is constant: strong images, honest phrasing, and melodies that carry their own weight.

When the road pauses, he’s in the studio producing records for acoustic artists and Americana bands—shaping tones, guiding performances, and finishing mixes that feel clear and human. He’s known for arriving early, caring for the venue and crew, and building nights people talk about on the ride back. The throughline is simple: serve the song, serve the audience, and leave the place better than you found it.
