Blue Mountain Bluegrass

by | 10 Aug, 2008

bmbThe Merry Muse Folk Club and the Monaro Folk Society presents Blue Mountain Bluegrass featuring Australian singer/songwriter Karen Lynne, Australia’s foremost female contemporary Bluegrass artist. Karen joins her sister, Liz Frencham for the first time since their family band Homefolk in the 80’s.

Karen was the first Australian female artist to record a complete Bluegrass album – Blue mountain Rain – back in 2000 and has worked with Sydney band Acoustic Shock ever since. Due to personal circumstances Acoustic Shock have been taking a break, thus Karen & Liz have taken the opportunity to branch out in their own Bluegrass line-up. Karen takes with her a few well known faces from Acoustic Shock – Martin Louis, Nigel Lever & Quentin Fraser, and along with a new fiddle player Wen-Tjen Lim, this exciting new line-up presents a mix of contemporary & traditional bluegrass, along with instrumentals, a number of Aussie originals and features stunning 3 part harmony vocals from the Frencham sisters and banjoist Martin Louis.

Due to her continuing liaison with many duo & band collaborations, Liz Frencham is occasionally not available and tonight well known Banjoist & Double Bassist John Taylor takes her place. This evening will also feature a wonderful duo act as support, also from the ACT, Craig Dawson & Simone Olding.
