News from Paul Trenwith in New Zealand.
The New Zealand town of Waikato is the place to be this Anzac Day if your looking for a jam.
Yes, it’s our first autumn Back Porch Bluegrass, at the Waikato Equestrian Society Hall in Pukete Rd, Hamilton this coming Anzac Day, Sunday 25th April, 2010.
We had some great music in March with ‘Wires and Wood’ from Auckland , as well as a visit from Alan & Julia Rhodes from Whenuakite, Summer Wine with their new fiddle player Ross Boyce, and a surprise but very welcome visit from Julie Pescud, Hamilton fiddle player extraordinaire. We even had more double basses than the average orchestra, but that can happen at a bluegrass gathering.
This month we don’t have any special guests, so it’s up to us locals and regulars put together some items – maybe Anzac-type themes in some songs?
We’ll be starting at 3.30pm, going until about 6.00pm. Bring your songs and tunes, new and old, and with the help of the Back Porch Bluegrass Band you’ll be able to perform to a very discerning audience as part of the whiteboard concert, then stay for the jam at the end. All this, plus coffee and biscuits for only $5. Bring your friends and neighbours, shout them if you have to – Paul Trenwith.
