More dates announced.
The 2011 Banjo Conference was held in Maleny at the Tranquil Park Resort. The event was completely sold out with more than 50 participants in attendance over the three days. The conference highlights were many and overshadowed only by the amazing views of the Glasshouse Mountains during the day. International visitors, Ross Nickerson and X Train attended along with several Australian banjo instructors over the course of the weekend. The event kicked off with a spectacular concert by Ross Nickerson and X Train on the Thursday evening.
Peter Nahyusen, conference convener, has advised us that because of the ongoing demand for this camp, as demonstrated by the growing numbers in attendance over the years, it has been necessary to add a second conference to the mix. This is extremely encouraging news for the future of Bluegrass music in Australia.
The dates and details to hand are as follows:
Conference 1 – The Australian Banjo Conference
December 6th – 9th 2012
Cost: $750
60 places for banjo players of all levels
6 instructors
Featuring Ross Nickerson and X Train!
(Very similar to past programs but with some minor improvements to the program)
Conference 2 – The Australian Bluegrass Conference
December 13th – 16th 2012
Cost: $750
This year featuring 3 instruments – banjo, guitar, mandolin
20 places for banjo (2 instructors)
20 places for guitar (2 instructors)
20 places for mandolin (2 instructors)
Featuring Ross Nickerson and X Train!
(Similar to Banjo Conference, but to include tuition for guitar and mandolin as well as banjo)
…I don’t want to have one large banjo camp followed by a small second camp the week after. In consultation with Ross, Gary and a number of others, we feel it would be great to have 2 full-size camps and include 2 other instruments to help grow a full vibrant second camp. At this point in time, I am planning to have X Train return (by popular demand!) Mark Miracle is very keen to teach mandolin and Peter McLaughlin is keen to teach guitar. So with Gary, and Mark for mandolin, Peter and Mark Nahuysen on bluegrass guitar, Ross and Marty, along with other support musicians we have all the instruction for conference 2 covered with quality instructors.
So, if for example you wish to attend the Banjo Conference but the dates (6th – 9th) don’t work, don’t fret! Come to Conference number 2 and still receive quality instruction and the same wonderful conference experience you know and love. There will just be more instruments there!
You can begin to make your bookings asap!
It is important that all bookings for 2012 be accompanied by a deposit of at least $100 to lock in your spot. I really think Conference 1 will fill fast so I recommend getting in early. I have fielded 4 definite starters already from people outside the 2011 conference – Peter Nahyusen.
