Mandolin prodigy George Teasdell was announced as ABOTMA 2025 Young Performer of the Year. George is currently studying classical mandolin at the Sydney Conservatorium in what he describes as a classical performance degree. He said he was feeling like this classical stuff is very daunting, and then I get an email saying I’m the Bluegrass young performer of the year. I  love Bluegrass because it’s the improvised form. It’s about improvising, self-expression and just having fun with it.

Among so many great mandolin players, George claim that he has been fascinated by a comment from Mike Compton:

He told me something amazing the other day which is that Old-Time is better than it sounds and Bluegrass sounds better than it is. I’ve been thinking about that for so long, it’s incredible; I love it – George Teasdell.

At Mountaingrass 2025 audiences saw George at his best playing with Charley Castle and the Boys in the Well and also with The Dempsey Brothers.
