Gospel singer/songwriter Squire Parsons of Asheville, N.C. was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame at Dollywood Oct. 9 in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
arsons was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame by member Maurice Templeton. “I thank the pioneers of gospel music… Those people captured my heart,†Parsons said. “I am thankful they captured my heart before Elvis and the Beatles did.
Parsons mentioned several artists that he remembers watching on the Gospel Singing Jubilee. “If we can just get our minds upon Jesus and the promise of the Lord, he has given us a wonderful vehicle to convey His message,†he said.
The Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum opened in Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on On April 17, 1999. The purpose of the SGMA is to maintain a Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum for the historic preservation of the accomplishments of our music, its people and its ministry.
The other 2008 SGMA class of inductees are Polly Grimes, the late Fred Daniel, Ray Dean Reese, the late Herschel Lester, and the late Luther G. Presley.
