It’s a unique music event which focuses on you learning new musical skills, making music and making friends. The tutors for 2024 are members of The High Street Drifters, a dynamic young band making a name for themselves at festivals on the east coast.

The High Street Drifters

The High Street Drifters

The High Street Drifters are Justin Vilchez on mandolin, Gage Stead on double bass, Mae Traeger on fiddle and Daniel Watkins on guitar. The band will be a feature for the weekend as will Joey Gibson, a local banjo turor from Perth, WA.

This will be the band’s first visit to Western Australia and their Saturday concert at the Tall Timbers Brewery will be their only public performance in WA. You can read more about The High Street Drifters here.

Whether you’re an experienced player or a newbie to the genres, the Manjimup Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Weekend is an event where you are encouraged to bring your instrument. Players of all levels are welcomed and encouraged to attend the workshops. The content of the workshops will be aimed at players who are familiar with their instruments, comfortable with chord changes and have a working knowledge with the scales of traditional Bluegrass keys.

As the brewery will be a ticketed venue throughout the weekend, organisers have introduced a Supporter’s Ticket. This ticket will admit you to all evening events at Tall Timbers Brewery. The lounge bar at the Manjimup Hotel has been reserved for the weekend so there can be a separate space for Old-Time jamming.

The Manjimup Bluegrass & OldTime Music Weekend is a volunteer run event which aims to cover outgoings via ticket sales. If you know anyone who may be interested in sponsoring this amazing event, why not suggest it to them? Sponsorship to help with accommodation, travel expenses etc.would be really appreciated and marketing assistance would be a real boon – especially to get the word out that the concert on the Saturday night with The High Street Drifters’ is not to be missed!

This year The event is on the King’s Birthday Weekend so booking accommodation early is advised as it’s also the first weekend of the school holidays.

Tickets for the weekend are available here.
