The next Wernick Method Jam Camp on Phillip Island is Now Fully Subscribed.

After an almost three year hiatus due largely to restrictions and uncertainty around covid actions in Victoria, the now sold out 2022 Wernick Method Jam Camp is set to get underway on Phillip Island in Victoria’s south on the weekend 13th August.

1st Jam Camp Caloundra 2011

Typically these jam camps are attended by bluegrass pickers from beginners to intermediate and experienced players from across Australia to learn, not just how to jam and play music with others but, how to do it confidently.

Over the years Jam Camps Australia has seen musicians travelling from Western Australia, Queensland, South Australis and New South Wales. During the past ten years, jam camps have been hosted in Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria. Now regular jam camps are mostly held on Phillip Island in Victoria.

Using the Wernick Method ands as a certified instructor I have been hosting Bluegrass music camps and Bluegrass jam sessions and classes in Australia since 2011. This well tested and proved method of instruction, teaches people of all levels of experience how to play bluegrass music together in a jam environment.

A jam camp will usually be attended by around 20+ people of all ability levels. The camp runs across two and a half days, delivering tuition and hands on learning on: the role of each instrument in a bluegrass jam and band; how to play backup on your instrument, how to find melodies, fake solos, carry a tune and sing harmony; how to follow along in a jam without song sheets or music; how to find the right key to sing and play in while learning many bluegrass standards.

The Wernick Method emphasises the importance of developing ear skills, engaging with others while playing and above all, having fun in the process. Pete Wernick’s inventive and time-tested method focuses on the student’s desire to play music in a social setting. Our mission is to address the general lack of teaching bluegrass jamming skills. Our classes and camps have been launching jammers for over 10 years.
