Karen Lynne – CD Launch

December 18th, 2009

karen-lynneKaren Lynne to Launch “Wishing Well”

Karen Lynne will officially launch her new album Heart Songs in a bluegrass concert scheduled for Friday, 22nd January, 10am, at the Tamworth Community Centre, Darling Street, Tamworth, (Heritage Room)

Entry is free. (Gold Coin Donation if you want to help cover room hire).

I am currently in the studio working on my next album, a country album called Heart Songs. We will make pre-release copies available to those that would like them, so please keep in touch. It’s as country as,.. ‘Cow poo’ and you can’t get much countrier than that. It’s also gorgeous and allows me a gentle return to that lovely traditional country that I have always loved. If you loved Second Wind you’ll love this one more. It has all the sweetness and gentleness of the way ‘real’ country music is supposed to sound,.. yep!, without even a hint of crossover country/pop or country rock (which always sounds like rock to me). That, along with Australia’s best musicians, some of the best (& most familiar) country songs ever written and Herm Kovac’s magic at the producing desk, this is a real winner. This album is also different to my others in that it is full of well known songs – rather than new ones,.. although there’s a few you won’t have heard too. Karen Lynne

Karen Lynne – CD Review

November 19th, 2009

WishingWellCoverWishing Well – Karen Lynne

The first thing you notice about this album is the clean sound and a great selection of easy listening songs. Karen has selected a range of songs that suit her vocal range and singing style perfectly.

The other noticeable surprise is the quality of the music behind the vocals and a look at the liner notes explains why. With Rod McCormack, Ian Simpson, Trev Warner, Michel Rose, Mick Albeck James Gillard in tow, Karen Lynne is in great musical company on this album.

The CD kicks off with the title track, Wishing Well (Blues), written by Marshall Willborn – husband and bass player for the famed Lynn Morris and her band. Karen’s version of this song is smooth and silky with an beautiful  musical arrangement offered up from the aforementioned super group.

Another track that stands out is Karen’s arrangement of Paul Craft’s Jealous. This may well become a classic arrangement with its unusual bluegrass and jazz feel.

The album also includes Karen’s collaboration work with Richard Porteous, Blue Mountain Rain, a depiction of lost love no doubt inspired by a rainy day amid her home town in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

The remainder of the CD offers up more of the same with some very pleasing musical arrangements, excellent harmonies and high quality musicianship jointly produced by Rod McCormack and Herm Kovac and released on ABC’s new Heartland label.

This album showcases Karen Lynne at her very best. It is little wonder that she has been nominated for and awarded so many accolades during her 20 year career.

Karen has released eight albums, received twelve major awards, been nominated for over forty major awards, completed three international tours, over ten Australian Country Music Radio Chart hits and a number of overseas chart hits, and now a place in Country Music Capital’s Historic Hands of Fame Park,

Karen is doing bluegrass music proud in Australia.

WishingWellBlue Mountains based singer Karen Lynne has a style of music that ranges from Country to Bluegrass to Folk and everything in between. Karen Lynne has taken great strides in her career as a singer/songwriter since starting out more than 20 years ago. She has had considerable success with her recordings and has collected many accolades and Awards along the way including Golden Guitar Awards finalist placings, her hand-prints in the Tamworth Hands of Fame Park, the Frank Ifield International Spur Award and many other Independent artist Awards.

Now, with eight  great albums, twelve major Award wins, over forty major Finalist Nominations, three international tours, over ten Australian Country Music Radio Chart hits and a number of overseas chart hits, and now a place in Country Music Capital’s Historic Hands of Fame Park, she continues to demonstrate a dedication not often recognised in her field – ABC Music

Awards Nomination – Karen Lynne

September 9th, 2009

Victorian & National Country Music Awards

Karen Lynne’s recent album The Singles has achieved two award nominations in the 2009 Victorian & National Country Music Awards.  These annual awards are in recognition of the best of Australian Country Music offerings.

First award in the Smoky Dawson Best Independent Release Category and the other a Top 10 nomination in the Bluegrass & Traditional Country category is a Gordon Lightfoot song, The Circle is Small.

These Nominations have certainly surprised me!, but it’s always nice to have your music recognized, regardless of the way it’s packaged and just great to get another ‘Gong’ for what is certainly partially Bluegrass music in Australia. - Karen Lynne

News From Karen Lynne

December 5th, 2008

NEW BAND FORMATS:-
I have had lots of people asking questions about the various line-ups of “Acoustic Shock” they’ve seen me working with and even a few line-ups going under a few other band names as well! I have found that while working with Acoustic Shock has been wonderful, the members are not always available to do the gigs I pick up and therefore the line-ups have had to temporarily change. A lot of you have asked about Jim Rush who has not been available for some time and while he is on a bit of a break at the moment, we too hope that you’ll see him back in the line-up sometime in the future. I have tried to use a different band name to show when the band line-up wasn’t actually ’ Acoustic Shock’ but it seems that this just confuses everybody even more because they still see so many familiar faces. Never mind, I think next year will bring a few changes to our band line-up once again, remember,.. it’s still me!

Thanks for everyone who supported our gigs over the last few months, especially the local ones I wasn’t able to advertise properly due to my computer problems.

Karen Lynne CD Release

August 12th, 2008

karen-lynneKaren Lynne, Australian Country, Folk and Bluegrass artist announces the release of her sixth album in her growing independent catalogue, which now includes three solo albums and two collaborative offerings. One of these festures Sydney Bluegrass band Acoustic Shock and the other, singer/songwriter Pat Drummond.

The album is titled The Singles, and is Karen’s first compilation album of singles released on Australian radio from her five albums to date.

Karen comments “It’s been well over 20 years now since I started out in my musical career and after all those years singing and five albums, I think I’ve ‘earned my stripes’ so to speak, and the right to present a compilation album. I guess you could say it was a kind of celebration of my years singing and recording in the industry and a really nice summary of me and my musical journey so far. Also by using the singles released to radio over the years, it means that the listener gets a snippet of some of the best tracks from each of my albums, all on one disc”.

As Karen has always skated between Country, Bluegrass and Folk, it is a great album for first time fans who may not be familiar with her many styles. It has also been packaged for use as a great promotional tool for any media personnel wishing to understand more about her music and not only contains 15 tracks, but includes a detailed discography with biographical and album information, individual track chart placings, award information for each album and a video clip as well.
